Mountian View on the Big Island of Hawaii
The Mountain View area on the Big Island of Hawaii is not well know to visitors but has some of the most affordable lodging on the Eastern Side of Hawaii. The area is located on the slopes of Mauna Loa at the 1400’ elevation. There is a small Mountain View Village which hosts a one-of-a-kind bakery, a food pantry, a gas station and a video rental complex. Most of the surrounding area is ranchland with large parcels of land. The area is very quiet and has a number of activities, including horse back riding, ATV and Zip Line recreation. The evenings are cool; dipping into the upper 50’s on occasion, and makes for great sleeping at night. The Mountain View area is centrally located halfway between Hilo and Kilauea Volcano National Park , a twenty minute ride in either direction. A ten minute ride to Keaau will get you to a daily open market with a large variety of fresh fruits, and lots of local kind grinds including local grass feed beef.
